  • Olowalu

  •
  • Olowalu is a sleepy, quaint town, offering beachfront and mountain sites.  Olowalu offered the ancient Hawaiians one of the largest and deepest valleys in southwest Maui. Hawaiians used the upper slopes to grow taro, sweet potato and breadfruit on irrigated terraces along the slopes. The Olowalu stream that flowed to coastal areas also provided ponds and low areas for farming.  Olowalu contains one of the largest collections of petroglyphs on the Island.

Today, Olowalu is a quaint village, offering only a few larger parcels of land along the upper slopes and a few along the ocean front area.  Olowalu is poised to become a new village offering housing, shops and community life.

  • Maalaea

  •
  • If you are looking for a quaint, "away from it all" harbor town, then you may love Maalaea.  Windswept beaches that run for miles begin at the south end of Ma'alaea. If you explore these beaches you'll usually find seclusion, some surfers looking for wave action and a few fishermen hoping to catch dinner. In the village, there's restaurants, shops and restrooms near the harbor, along with The Maui Ocean Center, and a host of boat related activities; fishing tours, dinner cruises, whale watching and snorkel tours. Morning departures are recommended for any whale watching or snorkeling that brings you back in to the harbor just in time to have a bite to eat at one of the Ma'alaea Harbor restaurants.
